"I believe that God is faithful to His word and we have nothing to be afraid of. So this song is fun. It's indignant in the right ways ... it's designed to be a confession that we sing ... let the devil know not today!"

                                                                                                                           - Joel Houston, Hillsong UNITED

Recently, Joel Houston and Taya Smith of Hillsong UNITED sat down and talked about the stories behind their new song "Not Today." Taya, offering her perspective from the unique position of leading people into the worship experience, says this about the lyrics and song flow:

"It is like a progression; because, you know, we're singing: 'Tell the devil no not today. I'll sing the night into the morning, I'll sing the fear into Your name or Your praise.' And, I love that because it's like you're telling your soul what you're actually gonna do and you're telling yourself that's what my reaction is gonna be.

And, as the song progresses, that part gets bigger and then, just at the end, it's just like I'm basically just going for it and roaring." Taya continues, "And, I hope in that moment it would encourage people. And, if they need a confession and they need a reminder of what our stance should actually be as Christians, that they would be encouraged in that and they would be like, 'Hey, I can sing this.'"
